We are mandated by the Word to care for others (as Jesus Christ was our example) not looking for a reward.  God wants us to be "like Christ" in all that we do for others which means being completely selfless.  It's not easy because we get in our own way!

Being selfless, we are in total compliance with God's Word.  We will receive more than we can ever expect (in God's time) just by getting out of His way.

"But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest." Luke 6:35 KJV
